Overview
Tours are predefined multi-leg routes that pilots can enroll in, fly sequentially, and complete to earn a badge award and bonus points. Each tour defines a series of legs with specific departure and arrival airports, and optionally restricts which aircraft types may be used.
Tours support flexible configuration including repeatable completion, license restriction bypass, and aircraft repositioning options (fly-to-origin or point-based teleport).
Tour Configuration
Tour Fields
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Title | The tour name displayed to pilots. |
| Description | A detailed description of the tour and its route. |
| Badge Image | An optional badge image awarded to pilots upon completion. |
| Status | Draft (not visible to pilots), Published (available for enrollment), or Archived (no longer available). |
| Repeatable | When enabled, pilots can re-enroll and complete the tour multiple times. |
| Bypass License Restrictions | When enabled, all fleet-assigned aircraft are eligible regardless of the pilot's license. |
| Allow Fly to Origin | Permits pilots to reposition their aircraft to the leg departure airport by flying it there. |
| Allow Pay to Move | Permits pilots to spend points to teleport their aircraft to the leg departure airport. |
| Points Award | Bonus points awarded to the pilot upon completing all legs. Set to 0 for no bonus. |
| Opens / Closes | Optional window. Before the opening date a published tour shows as Scheduled and is hidden from pilots. After the closing date no new pilots can enrol. Leave both empty to keep the tour open indefinitely. |
| Let enrolled pilots finish after close | Pilots already flying the tour can keep booking legs for 14 days after the closing date. |
Tour Legs
Each tour has one or more legs that must be flown in sequence. A leg defines:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Sequence | The order of this leg within the tour (1, 2, 3, ...). |
| Airline | The airline associated with the flight number. |
| Flight Number | The numeric flight number for this leg. Combined with the airline IATA code to form the full flight number (e.g., "AB1234"). |
| Departure Airport | The airport where this leg begins. |
| Arrival Airport | The airport where this leg ends. |
Fleet Assignments
Each tour can be restricted to specific aircraft types by assigning fleets or subfleets. Only aircraft belonging to the assigned fleets or subfleets will be eligible for booking tour legs. If no fleet assignments are configured, pilots will not be able to find eligible aircraft.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Fleet Type | Either Fleet (entire aircraft fleet) or Subfleet (specific aircraft subfleet). |
| Fleet/Subfleet | The specific fleet or subfleet to allow. |
The Backoffice Workspace
Tours list. Totals across all tours (pilots flying now, completions, completion rate, points paid out), tabs for Live, Scheduled, Drafts and Archived, and a search box. Each row shows the route, window, enrolments, pilots flying now and the completion rate. The row menu can edit, duplicate, publish, archive, reactivate, or delete a tour (delete only works when nobody has enrolled).
Creating a tour. New tour asks only for a title and creates a draft. You then build the route and set the rules in the workspace. Import legs does the same and opens the bulk import straight away.
Workspace tabs (open a tour from the list):
- Overview: enrolment numbers, a drop-off chart showing how many pilots reached each leg (the leg losing the most pilots is highlighted), completions per week, median time to complete, average landing rate, and how often ferry-for-points and free repositioning flights were used.
- Route: a map and an editable list of legs. You can add, remove and reorder legs, close the loop back to the first airport, and paste many legs at once with Import (one leg per line:
DEP ARR [flight no.]). Unknown ICAO codes and gaps between legs (a leg that does not start where the previous one ended) are flagged, and a gap can be fixed with one click. Legs are locked once the tour is published. - Pilots: everyone enrolled, with progress, start date, last activity, and block hours. Pilots who have not flown a leg in 7 days are highlighted. Staff can Mark leg flown (completes the pilot's current leg without a PIREP, for example when a flight failed to match) or Re-enrol a pilot who abandoned. The list can be exported as CSV.
- Leaderboard: pilots who completed the tour, ranked by fastest total block time, smoothest average landing, or first to finish.
- Settings: title, description, points, banner image, the opening and closing dates, the rules, and the eligible fleets.
Publishing. A draft can only be published once it has a title, at least one leg, valid airports, no gaps between legs, and at least one fleet. Anything missing is listed at the top of the workspace. Preview as pilot shows how the tour card will look and whether pilots can currently see it. Duplicate copies the tour, its legs and fleets into a new draft.
Pilot Enrollment and Progress
Enrolling
When a pilot enrolls in a published tour, the system creates a progress record with status In Progress and generates a progress entry for each tour leg with status Pending. The pilot starts at leg sequence 1.
If the pilot is already enrolled and in progress, the existing enrollment is returned rather than creating a duplicate.
For non-repeatable tours, a pilot who has already completed the tour cannot enroll again.
Booking and Flying Legs
Pilots fly legs in strict sequence. For each leg, the pilot must:
- Book the leg using an eligible aircraft
- Fly the booked leg in a simulator
- The system automatically detects the completed flight and advances to the next leg
The system matches completed flights to tour legs by checking the booking ID or, as a fallback, by matching the departure and arrival airports.
What Pilots See
Tours page (/tours). Published tours the pilot is eligible for, as cards or on a map. Each card shows the tour's banner (the badge image), its route from first departure to last arrival, its total distance and points, the eligible fleets, and a progress bar for the legs flown. Pilots can filter by Available, In progress, and Completed, and sort by relevance, points, or length. A tour that is in progress gets a Continue where you left off card at the top that opens the booking flyout directly. Completed tours are listed under Your awards.
Tour page (/tours/{id}). A banner header, a route map with legs colored by status (flown, booked, next, pending), progress stats (legs flown, nm flown and remaining, reward), and the list of legs. Each flown leg shows its date, callsign, and landing rate. A side panel shows the next leg to book (or the booked leg), the tour's rules (eligible fleet, repositioning options, ferry cost per nm, license checks), and, once the tour is finished, the award.
Booking a leg. Booking happens in a two-step flyout:
- Choose aircraft: eligible aircraft already at the departure airport, or elsewhere (with their distance and ferry cost).
- Get the aircraft there: shown only for an aircraft that is elsewhere. The pilot picks Fly it there (a free repositioning flight, so two flights get booked) or Ferry for points (the aircraft moves immediately). Each option appears only if the tour allows it. The footer shows the points that will be charged and the balance afterwards.
Completing a Tour
When the final leg is completed, the tour progress is automatically set to Completed. The system then:
- Creates a Tour Award record for the pilot
- Awards bonus points (if configured with a non-zero points award)
Abandoning a Tour
Pilots can abandon an in-progress tour at any time. Abandoning:
- Cancels all active bookings linked to booked progress legs
- Sets the progress status to Abandoned
Aircraft Teleportation
When the Allow Pay to Move option is enabled, pilots can spend points to teleport their aircraft to the departure airport of the next tour leg. The cost is calculated as:
Cost = ceil(distance in NM x cost per NM)
The cost-per-NM rate is configured via the system setting Tour Teleport Cost per NM (default: 0.2 points per nautical mile). The pilot must have sufficient points for the teleport to proceed.
